Is it the Flu or a Cold? Tips to Help You Decide

Date: 01/16/17

Your nose is running. Your head is aching. But do you just have a cold or is this a case of the flu? As influenza season continues, the health experts at Envolve, an integrated healthcare solutions company, would like to help you understand the difference between symptoms more commonly associated with either the cold or the flu.

IT COULD BE A COLD IF YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE:

  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Fever usually lower than a temperature of 100.3° F
  • Headache
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Watery eyes
  • Irritability and discomfort
  • Some pain when coughing
  • Symptoms that last three to seven days
  • Symptoms that gradually fade away and do not return.

IT COULD BE THE FLU IF YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE:

  • Sore throat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Fever usually higher than a temperature of 100.4° F
  • Severe headache/migraines
  • Non-productive cough
  • Disorientation and listlessness, combined with difficulty moving
  • Constant severe back and body pain
  • Symptoms that are severe or persistent
  • Symptoms that linger and escalate over a period of time

The list above is to serve only as a guideline and should not be viewed as medical advice. In the case of a medical emergency, contact your healthcare provider or call 911.
